That makes perfect sense because bowing is part of showing respect to others in Japan...The reason why Japanese started wearing European suits is to show respect and relate to us while they do business, so it seems fair that our leader bow to theirs for being hospitable.
He basically patronized the Japanese emperor by bowing to him like. He may as well have worn a kimono,buck teeth, thick glasses,chop sticks in his hair and started rambling about Godzilla. how would react if the Japanese emperor walked up to Obama and started giving him some ridiculously complicated gang hand shake and calling him "dog" and "g" and offered him a 40oz because they thought it was part of "Obama's culture" its pretty much the same thing. The Emperor as well as Hu Jintao of China has stated they would prefer to have their hands shook instead of being bowed to because that feels awkward. I think Obama just wanted to bow to someone and found a reason to there.

I'm studying abroad in Milan, Italy this Spring 2010 and I've talked to seniors that just got back from studying abroad there. The two I've talked to said the majority of Europeans likes President Obama and dislikes Americans. They also said that they are really informed on global and national politics.
Obama was just being polite, I know we're all used to Bush and his "I'm gonna jack off while you give a speech on tax reform" attitude but we need to realize that got nothing done ad Obama is actually trying to do something god with our country.
All I'm saying is give Obama another year and if things aren't better then we can start to blame him, but it will take a while to clean up the mess that Bush created for him.

yo, every leader of every country on earth understands there's a ceremonial respect that is mutual between them, and they all conform to it... its like when you are at someone news smoking spot, you dont bum rush them with your habits, you sit back, enjoy what they're givin out, and maybe toss a couple highdeas of your own in lol
He was just trying to be polite, if it's offensive, he didn't mean for it to be obviously. I don't understand why people always emphasize the bad in people. Especially people that are supposedly stoned.

The media has made has such a big issue of the President bowing in the honor of the King of Japan, he was just paying his respect but OMG the US President bowing is just such a big deal. This is all a great example of outstanding media planning to hype inconsequential matters.
