Martial Law is fucked up...

I was just sittin here thinkin about Martial Law, not the movie... the real thing. The government can suspend all civil rights in the event of an emergency, like a riot... The literally suspend the constitution. It's like, "Yeah, we live by the constitution... Except when we don't want to."

I might just be some dumb pothead... but i think it's crazy that we allow our government the option to place curfews on us....

Good thought my man. keep stayin outside the box.... theres so much more room

“Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted at all.”

It is necessary. Look at Katrina, people shot at the rescue and supply teams. As soon as the waters cleared gangs took over and still own parts of the city where there is no law. Your telling me in these situations lives should be thrown away so we can obey the letter of the law?

As bad as it sounds, yes. If the government can't control it's people within the boundaries of it's own law, they should have no right to dismiss said law and act as a tyranny.

That being said, your example is irrelevant, for the government, under its own law, has every right to stop such gangs and regain control. So yes, Marshall Law is wrong and technically doesn't even apply to the situation of Katrina's aftermath.

Besides being enacted? Police, the only federal branch able to fight the gangs were in too small a number. National Guard and the Army Engineers were sent in. You can't send in the military unless there is a a major emergency or martial law (guard does not count for this, neither does the CG). Point is regular Army was there in Katrina.

Even George Washington marched US troops against US Citizens (the only President to do so personally and join the march.)

Fact of the matter is, look again to the Katrina Aftermath, disaster brings out the best and the worst of us. When 50% of the population is acting as if there is no law and no consequences, you must go outside the law. Treat the area like a combat zone, if someone is armed you fire. Riot control has severely strained the laws as it is, the only difference is under ML no rubber bullets are used.

This is a last ditch maneuver, and used in worse case scenarios only (The Romans, during the Republic days, would install an Emperor during certain crises and they would then give up the office- Cincinnatus (spelling) for example. Hell, Martial Law is what kept the country TOGETHER after the civil war during reconstruction. It may be evil, but it is necessery.

People shouldn't be afraid of their government, A government should be afraid of its people.

i love v for vendetta. :)
you just made my day. i thank you for that :)

This is why im a libertarian.

The government ignores the constitution on a daily basis, they just take one right away at a time so you forget the last time they did.

yea sounds like all of this is coming down to whether the government has the right to impose martial law or not... good examples but i say it doesnt cuz seriously thats just damn hipocrasy to the max, oh yea in this country we believe in inalienable human rights to freedom, life, justice, blah blah blah, but when shit goes down uhhp constitution goes out the window, yeah rights citizen WHAT rights? WTF is wrong with the government, it was created from the constitution and is able to then reject the consitution by any trigger, becoming its own like abomination that just fucks the people over cuz it was smart enough to brainwash and passify the people with this democracy bullshit

i agree man, thats totally fucked up

congress has to enable it. Which is a majority of people in senate and house which is a lot. don't worry.

bingo. The bottom line is, if our country begins to fall to pieces, some liberties may have to be sacrificed to preserve the whole - we need a plan B no matter what.

War is a serious thing
