iPod/Phone/iPhone Finder
I lose shit a lot, especially when high. So since some iPods, more and more cell phones and all iPhones can connect to a wireless network, I would love it if I could use my laptop to locate some of these items. It could tell the proximity or strength of the signal giving some idea of where to start the search.
Another idea -along the same lines-would be to make bluetooth key chains for car keys so that your computer could pick up where those might be.

dude, this is an awesome idea, mostly for my girlfriend, i seen something at brookstone like it for remote, keys, whatever. you attach these little beepers and there is one central thin the you press to make the desired item beep
Check out apple.com/mobileme
Finds your phone
Sends it a message and pings it remotely—even if it's on vibrate
Remotely wipe if necessary
And it'll sync your data
Call your phone. You're a retard
You are right about the cell phone, calling it is a solution I had also thought about. The car keys and the ipod are more problematic. Also, i shut my phone on silent while at work, and its been lost while still on silent. But this is a problem that other might not have to deal with. Phones were not the only point of this post/or this idea. I dont think that it warrants any negative comments, but I appreciate you presenting a possible solution.
Brilliant, but should be made for loads of objects! Or the objects have built in chips so that they could be found. I tend to do it with more important stuff like cheques, headphones, the dog and baggies.
I think we should just have a consumer-grade version of this—like a sheet you can just peel RFID stickies off and stick 'em on whatever we like and be able to track them via some web interface or something. And of course there'd have to be an iPhone app...
