Im just curious as to of why they cant make a solid tire? Like do they fill them with air just so they can pop!!!!At his day and age with the technology we have im sure we can think of something that will last and you dont have to suffer with the hassell of changing a tire.

Those tires would cost too much money. Tires already can be expensive, so having solid tires would have to make the price of a tire skyrocket.

they already have developed that. they're called twheels. its a concept by michelin. don't know why they don't just make them though. i saw them on the discovery channel mini-series FutureCar.

In the military, they use tires made of kevlar filled with petroleum jelly. Never will have to replace those motherfuckers, unless you hit a landmine.

also, it would be extremely uncomfortable of a ride
people dont realize that the shocks dont take care of everything, just major things like turns and pot holes
air filled tires are for a smooth ride a solid tire you would feel just about every bump

solid tires chip and chunks of rubber often fly off, not to mention how much bumpier they are.

The main reason they don't use solid tires is because they heat up too much. They have solid tires for vehicles that don't go fast, like forklifts, lawn mowers, wheelchairs. Also, they are heavy, and create more "rolling resistance", and would use a lot more fuel. The tire that Michelin made, the solid one, is a very low profile, and is good as a performance tire, but a passenger car tire has to be able to handle a variety of surfaces, potholes, etc. What you would like is the device, I've seen it on semi-trucks, that keeps them inflated even they have a leak...........

you guys are all missing the main reason they don't make tires that last long. same reason they don't make electronics that last over a year or two any more. Corporate Greed. If it doesn't break down in a couple years how can they get you to buy more?
