Kay so humans have only three spectral classes of color photoreceptors, and stomatopod crustaceans have eight or more, so those little lobster shits can see colors that we can't, imagine see the world through lobster eyes.

get this we actually see less than .000001% of the entire known spectrum of light. were missing out on all that other shit like radio waves, infrared, microwaves, ultraviolet, and gamma rays. shit that would actually be neat to see

it's impossible for us to fathom that shit. think about it we can't relate it to a color we know cuz then it's just a shade of a color we already know...kind of how you can't say it's like blue, cuz then it's just combinations of the primary colors we see. i feel like i could go in circles with this all day, but it's just so mindblowing.

We just need to start eating crustacean eyes so we can steal their photoreceptors... I think i'm gonna try this.

pfukkinr Says:

My friend started this conversation at work once, he pointed at a little flower and asked why it was purple to us. He said that in reality that it didnt really have any colour, but they way our eyes work we see it as purple. But then there are colour blind people, which see things different.
And what about dogs, they say they see things in black and white, the way things really are.

So if what pfukkinr is saying is in fact true then we are just living in a black and white world. On another note I would want to find out if it is possible to get the left eye of a crustacean eyes transplanted into my left eye so I can see all the shit they can see. Any mad scientist on hand?

There is also something called a mantis shrimp which has twelve receptors instead of three like us (trochromatic). IT can see infrared and ultraviolet as well as many others we cant imagine

but like , how can there be more colours, i can't imagine wat they would look like. it kinda makes me uncomforable lol. cuzz like we can see absolutly anything no matter wat shade it is, so we can like see everything already, it's confusing to try to see it as another colour that dosn't exist.

You know how each color has it limit of how dark it can be untill it is black or how light it can be untill it is considered white, well I think that there are more colors beyond that black and that white we just don't have the extra receptors to see them. Now imagine if we could see them

i always think about like if everybody sees colors differently, like my red is your yellow but since we are taught at such an early age what colors are we can agree on something being a certain color, but we all have different perceptions of it

I always thought that... like if I could put your eye in my eye socket and connect it to my optic nerve how would I see it? After watching some of the robotic eye stuff I realized it doesn't really matter. Like imagine the millions of nuerons a spec of yellow has to travel through to get to your brain. Change one of them and that perception changes, so all of our perceptions are changing every day! Its not about how you see it, its just about what it is..... (but all about how you see it in the end).

my buddy claims he can see ultraviolet at times, his eye was damaged by a piece of wood flying into it, it is not badly damaged he can still see all other colors

ya and butterflies are another that can see massive amounts of colors, like 500 more then us. HOw is that possible that what were looking at isnt even everything that another creature a fraction the size of us can see. Kinda like colorblind ppl, how do they see different colors from us. Or even when someone perceives a color as maroon or purple and another would say dark red.. its all just reflection of light anyways. wow i shoulda just made that a highdea
