You are the problem with our country. It's ignorant ass opinions like yourself that ruin America. History lesson:

1963 - 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, committed by the Ku Klux Klan. Four African-American girls are killed on Sunday morning.

1963 - John F. Kennedy assassination committed by Lee Harvey Oswald who killed President John F. Kennedy.

1975 - Central Intelligence Agency's Athens station chief was shot by a Marxist Greek terrorist group, the Revolutionary Organization 17 November.

1995 - Oklahoma City bombing, 168 killed, over 800 injured. April 19.

2001 - Letters containing anthrax spores were mailed to several news media offices and two Democratic U.S. Senators, killing five people and infecting 17 others. (A 2004 study however, has shown that the total number of harmed people should be raised to 68.)

All of these were committed by a bunch of white guys,so don't go assuming terrorists only come from the middle east. Oh, and I'm not an immigrant; I'm just another cracker myself. And of anyone, its people like you that dont belong in our country for being completely intolerant of others. Also, you said "This is the problem with america, we let anyone and everyone in this country whose leaving their fucked up countries."....you do realize that was one of the founding principles of the US,right? And lastly, ka boom bitch.

And S.O.M.B.S, you were not given any divine right to be in America simply because you were born here. So quit being so goddamn ignorant. People don't kill people because they are "towel heads".
"they bring their antics with them and only create problems here"? Please, explain to me what exactly we've been doing in Afghanistan and Iraq, if not bringing our "antics" and creating problems? Because as far as I can tell, not only are we pillaging and murdering, we're also imposing our way of life upon them. So, Ka Boom bitch. Get off Dick Cheney's nuts.

And the two things that will kill friendships faster than anything else - politics and religion - are on this page.

Dude, I'm a stoner and I beleive in God. The main difference is that the bible is historical records. So its actually more along the lines of, Using the bible to prove God exists, is like saying your history books proves that WWII happened.

It definetly is a faith thing for sure. But I believe that churches give religion a bad name, not the religion itself. Christianity is actually a very open welcoming religion. God and jesus dont care if you smoke pot or whatever. Some of Jesus' closest followers were prostitutes and sinners. So dont bash religion, blame the churches for making religion a negative experience.

Tue, 03/02/2010 - 9:17pm

So I take it you don't believe in evolution? I mean since the bible is a historical record that means we got poofed here into existance and all those fossils and stuff are here because the devil put them in the ground to test our faith.

Wed, 03/03/2010 - 1:21am

I believe in microeveolution, not macroevolution. I do not take the book of genesis (where it describes the creation) literally. I believe that is clearly a metaphor.

But here is my argument. There has to be some sort of intelligent design out there. God or other entity. The fact is, we as humans are so complex, us happening by chance, or by evolution is absurd. The probabilty of us coming into existance is so astronomical. One DNA strand alone is more complex than any supercomputer we have ever created.

So thats like saying you have a giant bag of scrabble letters and you throw them out of the bag randomly and try to create a 100 page book; one that makes sense. Now for DNA, imagine doing the exact same thing only this time the book is a supercomputer that even humans cant create. So random chance doesnt exactly seem too probable.

I would even argue that God created the Big Bang, whats so radical about that?

You forget it happened in trillions and trillions of places for billions of years so the arguemnt of it being a random occurance goes out the window cause it happens on a scale we can understand

Thu, 03/04/2010 - 2:15am

I get that you may think that we are here randomly and thats fine, but at least have some evidence to back it up.

The fact that our planet even has liquid water is a miracle in itself. Scientists have not found one other planet with liquid water, which sustains life. The position we have relative to the sun, if we were slightly closer or further away, life would cease to exist. All of these factors put into one planet, it wouldn't be logical to think it happened randomly.

Also, if the big bang theory is correct, the chances of all of that mass and energy not collapsing upon itself is a miracle as well. I would just say if you believe something just have a logical reason for it. I base my "religion" off of these facts. This evidence outweighs anything else.

And if you have trouble with "faith" you are essentially putting your faith in random chance, so why not just put it into something worthwhile? Who cares if christinaity is right or wrong? I know a lot of people that live MEANINGFUL lives because of their religion. So why not just become a christian or any other moral religion for the reason that it can give you a community and family in times of need?

the reason we have the things we have on this planet is because we r the right distance away from the sun for favorable living conditions, thats why our planet is the way it is. And religion is a way for governments to control the mass amount of people on this planet.

I respect your opinion, but I have to say, that's an awfully limited perspective. Of course it would seem incredible for us to happen by chance, but when you factor in the infinity that is the Universe, it would only be logical that our situation would take place somewhere, as well as any thinkable situation. In fact, (this is something that I was thinking about the other day while I was high, haven't actually put any real thought into it other than that) God could technically be real. He could have been created by the Big Bang. If all situations are possible, then why not ours + God?

That's just my two cents. Unlike a lot of people, I love theological debates.

Existence of Earth > ~6 billion years.
Existence of God > Existence of Earth, ~Infinity, relevant domain still ~6 billion. (God synonymous to any/all modern deistic religions.)
Existence of Man ~195,000 - ~600,000 years, "important" domain.
Time span of documentation (modern) of God ~6000 years.

Odds that Bible is the full story of all God's pertinent work, ~1/195 - ~1/600 (in relation to active humanity looking specifically in relation to time).

(Alternative, some odd ~189,000 - ~594,000 years of humanity uninfluenced by God.
Odds that God is as lazy as I am, 194/195 - 599/600.)

God bless weed.

Creation by "Infinite" Entity or creation by Explosion of nigh infinite magnitude, both are pretty hard to believe. In fact both are very hard to believe without understanding where both are coming from, both got good points. One rested in culture, faith, documented first hand experiences, the other theorized though science, neither can nor should be 100% certain. When you think about it both are majestic methods of creation. With God, we are special, chosen, unique. With big bang, we are by chance, a very very slim chance, making us all the more special. Either way I feel awesome theorizing about how special and self important we humans are. :)

Some of you all commenting really need to do a lot more reading and learn a lot more about such things as how and why religions come about and persist. I appreciate a lot of you trying to be open-minded, but your knowledge of both theism and atheism is so horrendously skewed. Religion to me is like a guideline to help through life. While i myself do not believe in god as an actual person but as a sort of moral check, like saying is that what god would do? It was most likely made bye philosophers to set up the ideals and values society should have. And thats when people took it to literally.... So basically go through life as a civil human being and if there is an after life then you should get in, but if not others will be content with your actions.

"Well according to science energy cannot be created nor destroyed,so the big bang is a bunch of bull."

the big bang theory doesn't say that anything was created/destroyed.

"Big Bang Theory - Common Misconceptions
There are many misconceptions surrounding the Big Bang theory. For example, we tend to imagine a giant explosion. Experts however say that there was no explosion; there was (and continues to be) an expansion. Rather than imagining a balloon popping and releasing its contents, imagine a balloon expanding: an infinitesimally small balloon expanding to the size of our current universe."

"Big Bang Theory - Evidence for the Theory
What are the major evidences which support the Big Bang theory?

* First of all, we are reasonably certain that the universe had a beginning.
* Second, galaxies appear to be moving away from us at speeds proportional to their distance. This is called "Hubble's Law," named after Edwin Hubble (1889-1953) who discovered this phenomenon in 1929. This observation supports the expansion of the universe and suggests that the universe was once compacted.
* Third, if the universe was initially very, very hot as the Big Bang suggests, we should be able to find some remnant of this heat. In 1965, Radioastronomers Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson discovered a 2.725 degree Kelvin (-454.765 degree Fahrenheit, -270.425 degree Celsius) Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) which pervades the observable universe. This is thought to be the remnant which scientists were looking for. Penzias and Wilson shared in the 1978 Nobel Prize for Physics for their discovery.
* Finally, the abundance of the "light elements" Hydrogen and Helium found in the observable universe are thought to support the Big Bang model of origins."

One of the major problems I have with religion is that you are basically born into slavery. We are supposedly born into this world with "original sin" and are held accountable for something we had nothing to do with that happened thousands and thousands of years ago according to religion. And if we don't obey religion and go to church and pray to god and eat crackers then we are damned to a fiery eternal suffering. Just because I don't have a certain world view and don't believe in god doesn't mean I'm a worse person than someone who does. If there is a heaven, and I don't think there is one, I believe I will get in because I'm a good person and try to help others out. Oh, and I hope you guys picked the right religion, because you could believe the wrong one and wind up in "hell" too. /rant

let me start by saying holyshit. any way my personal belief on religion is that no-one has gotten it right yet. wat i mean by this is that no main stream religion is the correct method of worship. i beleave this because it is bullshit that any higher power/being would only come down to one geographic region and "enlighten" them and then leave the rest of the world to burn. ntm there are multiple striking similaritys on all major religious texts. however i do undeniably beleave in a higher power, i do because i HAVE felt its presence before and it has helped me through multiple hardships in my life. i do attend a small christian church that teaches how to use the bibles teachings as apposed to teaching how to follow it to the T.
