2012 self-fulling prophecy?
Ok. So everyone knows about 2012 in some way or another. People might not believe anything is going to happen, or they might have crazy beliefs about what is going to happen in 2012, but everyone has the IDEA that something might happen in 2012. So what if because everybody has this IDEA that something MIGHT happen in 2012 the world performs its' own little self-fulling prophecy and something catastrophic or amazing DOES happen?

I think its all bullshit though, the mayans used a different calendar than the one we use, the Gregorian calendar. For all you and i know their 2012 could have happened years ago. But anyways, the Mayan calendar is not predicting the end of the world in their 2012, but the start of a new era...
No dude, the mayan calendar is sound, they are talking about the same 2012 we are.(the calendar accurately predicts eclipses and other astrological events by date and time consistently) The truth of the subject is that the mayans describe an aligning of the planets in our solar system with the center of the milky way galaxy on dec. 21st 2012. All of which modern science confirms. The mayans also predict the end of an "age" during the same time. What the meant by "age" or the word that inspired the translation "age" is up for considerable debate. As is the effects of the "alignment".
Way off. everything was correct about the mayan calender but earth is going to be nowhere near the center of the milky-way. The center of the milky-way is a black hole, so if we were to be hurled into a black hole in 2012 then yes, most likely we will all die. However, we will be nowhere near any black holes. more likely is the magnetic pole of the planet will shift leading to drastic climate change and weather. We really don't know when that will happen though, but it will eventually. The self-fulfilling prophesy is realistic though. At least for some people. i bet some crazies will go off just before then or during and some bad shit will happen. but thats stupid fucking people for you.
Exactly. A new Era. Some major change happens (it IS an election year!) and a new Era in human culture happens because of said major change.

I actually embrace the idea of being around when the apocalypse comes. Out of all the generations of homo sapiens that walked this earth you were there and alive to see the end.
I don't think it's going to be an apocalypse though.
For some reason many people think the world is going to end, just no one group is ever on same page in the big book of apocalypse/end of civilization theories, I remember all the commotion at the turn of this century, there was Y2K, the possible 2nd coming of Jesus, WWIII or just plain 'ol end of the world cause the odometer has rolled over on our collective calender and says 2000 (maybe it was all those zeroes that scared them)
Now we've got basically the same thing with a mayan twist (our computers can't roll over to 2000 so they'll all stop working, the calendar doesn't roll over to 2013 so I guess by this logic perhaps time itself stops as it's the end of days), Jesus still might come back, WWIII still looms, then you have the fresh new theories, the environment destroying humanity, the economy destroying society and also theories about a great shift in consciousness/age of enlightenment (perhaps about the possible legalization of cannabis or gay marriage , which also leads to people who would argue such things would ruin society)
Anyway what i'm trying to convey is that the more things change the more they stay the same, perhaps it's human nature to think the world's always gonna end, maybe it's just our species natural creativity showing itself in a way we don't understand and coming up with ideas about how the world will end.
All i know is this certainly ain't the first century to have end of the world theories.

shit people have always said the world is gonna end. i think about it every day of my life. im not even gonna start talking bout the theories i have about the scenarios that could bring it about, but i will say that something is gonna happen. the proof is all around you. the whole world is just anticipating something. shit is building up and building up, so if nothing happens and our existence continues in this stagnant trend of borderline apocalypse, ill be sorely disappointed. i wouldnt say im hoping for it, but im not scared of it either. i think itll be more of a change then a simple "end of the world". our entire way of life will be flipped upside down and well have to adapt or die.

i think this shit really is gonna go down. think about it. what happened to the dinosaurs? completely gone. and scientists also say that 99% of all things to have walked this earth are dead now. but why? the same shit that happened to the dinosaurs and the same shit that is gonna happen to us in a couple years.
and if for some reason it doesn't happen, those few days before the 21st, people are gonna go nuts. it's gonna be like that one scene in bruce almighty where everyone is stealing shit and going crazy. so even if the apocalypse doesn't happen, we're gonna make something happen.

don't think anything catastrophic will happen. 2012 is going to be a widespread change of thought, like the next golden age or renaissance. imagine no hate, no war, no pollution, just everyone being cool to everyone and everything, all of us who smoke are already ahead of the curve. spread the word, if everyone thinks it, it will happen.
