If someone invented time travel, don't you think they would have traveled back to our time to tell us?

"Hey look a UFO!"
"You mean hey look, a badass time machine that is totally waiting for an event to come around that they can prevent. Im telling ya, them ufos aint no aliens."

Idk why i made this a convo...

Gizmodo Says:

1) scientists who believe in creating a time traveling device through a worm hole say that you can only travel as far back in time as the second that worm hole was created (it'd take too long for me to explain that so just trust me on this one)

2) some scientists believe that when you travel back in time, you create a parallel universe so that you cant create any time paradoxes (like going back in time and killing your father before you were born, how would you have killed him if you were never born). so they think you just go to a different, identical dimension..

hope i spread some knowledge

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 12:24am

Or maybe they're just silent observers, waiting for us to notice them.

Ever read the Odd Thomas series? Great book, not the point.
The book is about a man who could see the dead, as well as the black, dog-like foggy shadow creatures that were not dead, although could not react with our universe and they would only show up before a brutal event, (if someone were brutally murdered, they would show up at the crime scene)

He would often monologue about these creatures and there origins/whereabouts, and the scariest theory i think he ever pruposed was this. Can't find the quote so ill badly explain.

They are visitors of the future, he feared that the future humanity may become "perfect", if there are no disasters how will humans entertain there pointless lives. So the people of the future may visit this world every day, but it's only because humanity has become so sick, we watch our ancestors suffer for entertainment.

I bet space will not allow matter from a different dimension affect this one, just as space will not allow light speed to be surpassed, for whatever reason.

I kinda consider an airplane as a time machine. Like if you really think about it, depending where your destination is, you end up in a different time zone. o_0

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 9:57pm

Dont quote me on this, my memory is a little foggy, but i believe there is a relation between time and gravity and that the farther you are away from the center of gravity the slower time moves. An astronaut is technically a time traveler because they are spending time out in space where time is technically slower. Same thing with your airplane... pretty sure its time travel although its so minute that you cant recognize it

Zensimilla Says:

Airplanes are time travel, two atomic clocks were made one was kept on the ground and one flew around the world for 24 hours. The one in the airplane was slower by billionths of a second. Although it's technically not time travel, just slowing your relativity in space time.

Mon, 11/14/2011 - 12:31am

Its true. Black holes are so dense that they slow space time to a crawl. And if and astronaught travelled close to the speed of light for ten years, outside the Earth's gravatational field, then a thousand years would pass on Earth.

There was a mighty spaceship with a curious crew exploring the depths of the cosmos, and as they would then come to a new world, a new planet, a new solar system they would then with thier curiosity investigate, interact, share, trade, exchange, taking what they needed of that which was freely given to them giving back that which was what the world might need, the people on the world might need. And one day, in such an exchange, the crew was asked by the inhabitants of one of the worlds they were visiting,

"exactly tell us, if you would, with this great majestic ship you have orbiting our world tell us, exactly, how poweful are you?"

The captain of the crew said in response to the question "our ship can boil your seas.. turn them to steam.. level you cities in the wink of an eye.. turn your entire population to dust in an instance"

"Oh" said the inhabitants "that is very powerful"

"NO" said the captiain, "What gives us our power is that we would never do such a thing, that is how powerful we are, that we have this at our disposal and would NEVER use it that way. That is how powerful we are."

I think it would be possible to travel to the future and not the past

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 8:05pm

there are many reasons traveling back in time aren't possible
but traveling into the future is quite plausible
we have proven that the closer something goes to the speed of light, the faster it travels through time
among other things, this suggests that intergalactic travel may be possible
if an astronaut travels near the speed of light, the time they experience will be far less than the actual time they travel
so a 20 year journey would only be something like a 1 year journey for the astronaut, for example

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 8:06pm

the people who figured it out probably know it might be used irresponsibly so they dont want us to find out yet.

GanjaKhan Says:

According to the linear notion of time, you cannot be present in more than one place at the same time. By “you,” the linear concept refers to your body, your brain and your consciousness that is somehow tied to your body/brain. (Science cannot yet explain how exactly body and consciousness are “tied,” but it does maintain – generally – that consciousness cannot exist without a physical body.)

According to the “full,” subjective concept of time, you are present wherever your consciousness dwells. Where you are, in time and place, is determined by the focus of your consciousness, not by the location of your body.

For example: you are at the station, waiting for your train to arrive. It will take some time yet, so you just sit and stare for a while and unnoticed you get into a slightly altered state of consciousness. You are now thinking of someone you were talking to yesterday. You recall that conversation easily and you vividly remember how it affected you. You are reliving certain aspects of that conversation, drawing it into your Now moment from the past. What you are actually doing here is that you travel to the past and you visit the energies of that moment again. Your Now energy interacts with the energy of the past, possibly creating changes in your experience of that moment and thus altering the past.

By altering the past we do not mean that you alter any physical facts, but that you overlay them with a different interpretation or perspective. By altering the felt content of a certain past event, however, you are in a sense altering the event for you.

This is a very interesting and well-thought out perspective. Your looking at it from a different angle and your reasoning is valid and clear, i love it. i haven't heard of anything like this but it sets aside physics and redefines the question, brilliant. thank you for this

i didnt understand this line though: "With empty mind really penetrated, the dharmas have no life."
the dharmas have no life?

no because if someone told you that you'd think there fuckin crazy

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 9:24pm

If Traveling forward is possible i feel it would have to do with freezing your self.

Thu, 11/17/2011 - 7:27pm

that isn't time travel though, it's simply preserving the condition of your body as it naturally passes through time

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 9:30pm

or maybe there are strict laws on how it is used in the future :0

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 9:50pm

Lets say you make a time machine, and go back and stop yourself from dong something stupid. Because you went back in time and stopped yourself from doing it, you wouldn't have had to get a time machine and go back and stop yourself since it never happened. But then, you never made the time machine, so you really DIDNT go back in time, and you really DID do the stupid thing, but you stopped yourself cause you made the time machine cause you wanted to stop yourself. Time Travel = paradox.

lainey-bug Says:

Plus with time travel so would be moving so fast that time wouldn't even exist. Because you would be traveling faster than time.

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 10:04pm

Im pretty sure this is what physics has to say... well this is what i understood from science channel lol... time is just another dimension like up down left right forward and back.. all time exists now.. you cant think of time as a series of events.. present past and future all exist right now.. however what we know as time is these events in a specific order.. To step between moments of time would require unimaginable amounts of energy.. however time traveling could be described as going out into space for a month where time moves slower because there is less gravity and coming back to earth and it being 5 months later.. idk if this makes sense but yea

It's a conspiracy man! They came back a long time ago but the government found out and hid it because they do not want us to know you can travel through time.

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 10:15pm

if they could be at any point in time.. why would they even come to us?

Sun, 11/13/2011 - 10:27pm

according to the laws of physics, in our universe, nothing can travel equal to or faster than the speed of light. As something becomes closer and closer to that speed however, natural laws kick in and begin slowing time down. In example, suppose there was a train that traveled around the world at 99% the speed of light. as it was circling the world, time would on the train would be much slower than that of the rest of the world. Exact calculations are hard to predict, but lets say for simplicity time was cut in half. In saying that, one week on the train would mean two weeks outside of it have past. This is the only plausible explanation of time traveling. On the other hand, it is impossible to travel back in time because of the simple explanation that it would violate the paradox saying that you have to have cause before effect. I love this concept thank you for sparking my interest, I say this because i was just enlightened by multiple documentaries by the amazing mind of steven hawking. hope this helped without sounding like a know-it-all. be easy, smoke all day err day.

I think if backward time-travel was possible, you'd only be able to go back as far as the day you made the machine on. So someone who invents a time machine in 2015 won't ever be able to go back to before 2015.
I think it would still be pretty useful :)

Mon, 11/14/2011 - 12:04am

I think the future hasn't happened yet.... The past has happened, therefore we can only travel to the past. And since we havent invented a time machine yet, that's why nobody's met a time traveler...

Isn't Traveling through time backwards theoretically impossible?....but Traveling forward through time is possible..theoretically..if u can get super close to the speed of light....or something...the time slows down cuz u cnt go faster than the speed of light...or something like that

sequoyah Says:

so the whole thing about astornauts in space revolving around the earth seems a little incoherent. if youre in space past earths gravitational pull, then time doesnt necessarilly slow down, you just move slower than the rotation of the earth right? like you just get a little lag as if you were going back into a different time zone or something like that. and the whole transfer of energy as you move makes sense. if i move from point A to B i have already exerted energy that i cant get back. so thus that means that energy is lost and equates to time i guess. am i making sense right now? i hope so.

Mon, 11/14/2011 - 8:25pm

maybe they have laws in the future saying that you can travel back to anytime you want but you're not allowed to tell anyone you're from the future. for all we know there are future people walking among us!
