in regards to a lot of modern rap music fans:

Why would you pay money to listen to people brag about how rich they are? I mean... seriously, the lyrical meaningfulness in a rap song these days is nonexistent.

I totally agree. I miss the days when rappers had a story to tell. Biggie, Master P, etc.

I hear ya man, i aam acctualy wearing my Public Enemy shirt today lol.

"get high, eat pizza, stay rad"-Me

Dude, that is an excellent creed to live by!

haha thanks, i came up with it watching Ninja turtles

"get high, eat pizza, stay rad"-Me

i hear you to an extent.. but i dunno mainstream stuff is always crap imo, thats why you have to look to the underground no matter what genre of music its usually where the good stuff is. modern day rap does suck, but theres still plenty of really good artists that just arent that well known except for their mixtapes

wu-tanggggg

Nahman- not ALL new age rap sucks...for example- ATMOSPHERE is where it's at

atmosphere has been around for 10+ years bro.

2Pac, Tech N9ne, Aesop Rock.

That's about all the true hip-hop I can stand. Can't do none of that lil wayne and whatever else bullshit is on the goddamn radio.

listen to sweatshop union, 1865 hiphop, murs, the love and terror colt, brother ali, and felt are all my favorite rappers other then aes and tech

GUCCI MANE BITCH
YOUNG GEZZY BITCH
TRICK DADDY BITCH
RICK ROUS BITCH
BALL GREZZY BITCH
OJ DA JUICE MANE BITCH
PLIES BITCH
305 BITCH
M.I.YAYOO BITCH
DUNK RIDAZ BITCH

ok im a rap fan to but...those r all rappers that rap bout $ xcept mayb 305..cuz ive never heard of them

you down with OPP?

Yeah, you know me

bitch you dnt no me

yeah that song was ok, but youre right i like rap that has a storyline a begin, a plot, an end lol i wish morgan freeman would rap his shit would be FIYA his voice wins

i would pay morgan freeman bank to make an album lol

"fifty cent is gay so is kanye west
shooting hot sperm on eachothers chests"

steel panther rules

Fuckin reggae is the way to go.. if you smoke and don't listen to reggae there is seriously something wrong with you... all the songs are upbeat and have lyrics talking about peace, love, and weed. bad in no way

yeah dude, i used to feel you, but i have been giving this genre a chance lately. i really dig drake and the crazy shit he is comin up with. hes done some pretty sweet duets with eminem and kanye west recently.

"rap will never be the same as before,
bashing in the brains of these hoes,
and establishing a name as he goes,
the passion and the flame is ignited,
you can’t put it out once we light it,
this shit is exactly what the fuck that i’m talking about when we riot,
you dealin with a few true villians
who stand inside of the booth truth spillin,
and spit true feelings, until our tooth fillings come flying up out of our mouths
now rewind it!"

that shit is tight my friend

onelove(:

Funny you mention him, because he was the inspiration behind my highDEA. His song Money to Blow to be specific

yeah... i think drake is a shit rapper. he is just a carbon copy of what 14 year old girls will buy. cant really do a real song that isnt about money or some dumb r&b shit.

i'll have what yogijoe's having. but forreal, i like to listen to crazy rap with the mad bass. especially when i'm high. gets me in the best mood.

A lot of music of any genre these days lacks lyrical meaningfulness. Sometimes I flip to every station and eventually just shut it off because it all sucks.

I will say this about rap music though... I'd rather hear about some guy who is super rich with bling and cars and hot women over someone who is whining about how horrible their life is. Rappers at least seem to be enjoying themselves.

Furthermore, regardless of what anybody says about autotune, when used properly it is one of the best things to ever happen to the genre.

My favorite rap song still to this day is Gangstas Paradise.

maybe if you listened to something other than the radio..

nobody mentioned bone thugs!

i mentioned thugs'n'harmony

its bone and biggie, bigge, just bone and bigger, biggie! just ride, just ride and get high, get high get high! meet me at the crossroad :(

You all make me so proud!!! thank you. Long Live The Ol' School.... Hip-hop is dead & these wack motha Fuckas killed it. Wu-Tang FOREVER!

all these posts with stoners and no one brings up snoop? snoops the king..

IDK, there is a lot of shitty stuff out there

I hafta admit, I do like Lil Wayne, I used to blindly hate wayne because of his hype, but when I gave it a chance I liked it... I write a lot of music, and I love his metaphors, punch lines.

But there's still a lot of good, really intelligent stuff out there

Like, I'm from Minneapolis, which has an insanely strong indie-hop scene, ain't a damn gangsta rapper makes it big outta mini-apple but a lot of smart rappers, people with something to say, some wicked ass rhymes coming out of there.

Some really good, not-cliche Minneapolis stuff:

Atmosphere (love to PizzaFTW, saw him puttin up)
Eyedea and Abilities
Heiruspecs
Doomtree
Brother Ali
Knonam
P.O.S.
Ill E. Gal

And then theres other good stuff that isn't all about money, hoes guns and shoes...

Aesop Rock, from NYC (love to EsotericEntity)
Sage Francis, from Rhode Island
Flobots from, Denver
Buck 65, from Canada
Murs, from LA
Del tha Funkee Homosapien, from Oakland
Canibus, from nowhere in particular
Jon Young, from Orlando
Haystak, from Tennessee
Mickey Avalon, from LA
Whole Wheat Bread, from Jacksonville Fl

seriously! to say that all rap has no meaning is ridiculous. Listen to Lupe Fiasco just to name one. Read the lyrics while the songs play.

I didn't say that. I said in regards to a lot of modern rap music fans. A LOT. Not all...

immortal technique, wu tang clan, tupac & biggie, and SOME atmosphere are the only meaningful rap artists nowadays. pretty much any rap post-1999 is just straight corporate written bullshit. along with all other genres of music. america's record companies are killing creativity, originality, and soul and replacing it with cookie cutter bullshit music with no inspiration. all for a little money in their pockets. capitalism kinda bites sometimes.

Jurassic 5!!!!

You are totally right.. The shit they play on the radio is garbage... Real hip hop is still alive, tho. Rakim is dropping an album this month... Krs-one and Buckshot- Survival Skills came out last month and that shit was hot!! Raekwon's Only Built for Cuban Linx 2 is killin' it... Wu-Tang still makes good music and stays true to that real hip-hop style... And they talk about real shit... The problem is that the ignorant, tastless youth demands this new "gangsta pop" style... And that's what we hear over and over on the damn radio.. Unfortunatly, so-called artists have dominated the genre with crap and have given it a bad rap... Real hip-hop still exists, you just have to look for it.

i totally aagreee dude and with most of these commennts i saw, but thats why i listen to CLASSIFIED :P
seriosuly i think everyone should listen to him if you havnt heard of him im so hyped on all his music. even the old stuff, theres so much flow and talent

Look up Jurrasic 5, the songs:
Future Sound
Back 4 You
What's Golden
Work It Out

there are a bunch of other songs that are good too. Good rap is out there, it's just not on the radio. You have to find it. and check out Bone Thugs'n'Harmony

how can all of you talk about this and not bring up devin the dude! greatest smokin songs out there

and kid cudi and wiz khalifa are good ones too

thats why i prefer the old rappers like biggie smalls tupac and eminem cause there music acually had meaning to it and now in todays world its all about the money and girls with these a holes. they dont know the true meaning of bein an MC...
Da Ace

By the way how has no one mentioned eminem yet? seriously his new album relapse has so much lyrical meaning and emotion in his songs. and plus hes still makin albums and everything so i guess the art isnt lost quite yet
Da Ace

seriously, goddamn. that man is fucking legendary.

anyone who uses thar autotune crap in they mouth needs to get terminal syphilis and fukin die! AutoTunes is NOT hip-hop... And Waynes fuking gay...... Weezy FUKING Baby??????? really? no one else sees the gayness? Babys another grown ass man.... and Weezys fukin him.

yeah they do talk a lot about money but if you came from such impoverished backgrounds as they do it would probably be something at the front of your mind too. also, i mean look at it this way: people who listen to metal dont listen to it to analyze the lyrics really, they listen to it to feel pumped up. just like people who like sappy country songs dont care so much about the story the artist is telling, but the emotion it makes them feel. thats why for rap yeah they might be talkin about money and women but the central theme and message it's trying to convey is confidence. you know what im sayin ?

lupe fiasco...jay rock....nippsy hustle...cassidy...pat piff...all very valid n dont brag bout thier $$$

Dude, its just like rock and roll. When rock first started the big stars really were badasses. Now we have Linkin Park and Nickleback and other bullshit.

u guys have no idea how glad i am that someone other than myself feels this way...like, no idea...

u guys have no idea how glad i am that someone other than myself feels this way...like, no idea...

listen to oukasts first 3 cds. they are so good. andre 3000 on their first album was something not to be fucked with.
