I wrote this as a comment to another highDEA, but I wanted to make this into one. I just need to try and get this message out to people. Something everyone needs to hear, and to embrace, if we are to ever move on.

I view mankind as something different from the rest of the animals around us. Almost not natural. We are different from the rest of our world, and nobody knows why. Why were we given this intelligence? This... This self awareness that nothing else on the planet has. Creatures that have been around for thousands upon thousands of years longer than us. What makes us so specially gifted? I don't know. But what we have is just that. A gift. We can shape the world around us. We have the power to completely change the natural course of things. And with this gift comes power. And with power comes responsibility.

What is responsibility? Well the definition of responsibility is the quality or state of being responsible. Responsible means being accountable for something. Be it an car crash, a murder, or a storm, something is responsible.

It's our responsibility to make sure this planet and those less gifted family members out there aren't abused. But that's all we are doing. All mankind has done for the past few thousand years is destroy and abuse this planet. We are accountable for the numerically impossible to calculate death and destruction for thousands of years.

It's time, I think, we step up. We have the technology and responsibility to move beyond damaging practices like burning fossil fuels to clean energy like solar, wind, tidal, currents, and geothermal energy. We have the technology and responsibility to feed, clothe, and give shelter to every person on this planet. We have the technology and responsibility to stop polluting the environment with chemicals and toxins and litter. We have the technology and responsibility AS A SPECIES to come together and stop all the wars and fighting, to stop the division that we have felt for the past few thousand years...

It's always been a system of labels, based on where you were born. You're either white, or black. Brazilian or British. Catholic or Muslim. But those are all wrongful labels. At the end of the day, no matter if you're rich or poor, Republican or Democrat, vegen or meat eater, politician or school teacher, white or black, American or Chinese, you are a human. We are all humans, and as humans, we should be learning to live with each other. Showing nothing but love, and caring, and respect for each other. And I don't mean just Americans. I mean everyone. Haven't we learned anything? Since the beginning of time, man has fought and killed for power and wealth. Why are we still fighting? Why don't we accept one another as equals and stand side by side; brothers and sisters? Because at the end of the day, we are all people. The reasons for fighting and division of people across the world are all excuses. Excuses and justifications of a fundamentally broken, sick and corrupt society that NEEDS to change.

And why stop there? Why stop as a united front of humans? Because humans are too an overused, and rather silly label. We are all one. Human, dog, bear, ox, cow, pig, lion, crocodile, mosquito, wolf, tuna, hawk, bass, krill, sharks, whales, and every other of the endless species of amazing and beautiful creatures around us. We truly are one. We all share desires and drives. We breathe the same air, drink the same water, and break the same bread. Why don't we start learning to live together in harmony and love and peace.

Live as one.

Earthlings.

So where do we go from here my friend?
Is there a more effective method than compassion?
The problem is everything has become a trend in our culture and nothing is taken seriously anymore. How do I convince someone of something when they've already heard the argument in a joke (or they don't take it seriously) and written it off?

How do we best convince the people that don't already see infinite depth of peaceful life?

Can we even prove that we ourselves are self aware, that we have not just learned the traditions of our ancestors and used these instructions as a way to live long enough to make a baby, is that not the goal of the individual life in the end? To try to pass on it's genes, or leave something behind to better humanity(The future). Are other animals not doing the same? We can't know, this entire planet may be infested with intelligence, and we are the truly dumb ones, we are the only ones destroying the planet at such an efficient rate. and..
From a scientific point of view (witch is how I view most things at first), we are equally intelligent as every other animal on earth, the fact that those animals are alive today proves that.
I almost think humans give humans too much credit, if i knew the true origins of life we would know if humans were truly special. We have accomplished so much, yet a proper civil planet is still so far away.

very good point, i think humans illusion of being 'self aware' is based on human ideology and symbology that is often not directly related to human nature
our ideas of ourselves are often based on our ego, which create superficial personalities based on cultural and genetic constructs that condition our responses and thus our identities
only through deep meditation can we truly find ourselves, which is simply a higher consciousness, an essence in a shell

What if destruction is our nature? The planet, animals, other humans, objects. We are all responsible directly or indirectly for destruction. What other creature has the ability to burn things? What creature aside from humans wage wars? What other creature destroys for no reason. What other creature has emotions as dynamic and threatening as ours? To add onto all off this, opposing viewpoints. This causes rifts between people and leads to conflict and destruction. Including those who speak for peace. Many men have died for suggesting that we end our ways. It is a mechanism built to sustain our destructive purpose.

Are we self aware? Yes? Then what is our subconscious? It defines us and we can't even control it. We know what we do, how we do, but we don't truly understand why we do. There are many theories, ideas, and explanations for why, but we just don't know. It's beyond us, for now. We are aware of our own facade, but not the interior. I realize that this isn't the most desirable explanation of what we are, but perhaps it is the first step to becoming truly aware. And with that we can redefine what we are, should we so choose once we can see all.

This is a beautiful thought. It's sad that the reflection people of this world see when looking in the mirror is something they know is corrupt and wrong but so few are willing to do anything about it. I love every part of this highdea. It was motivating to read and should be spread. People should think long and hard about the small things they can do that would add up to global change.

Dude. I just made a highdea just like this and I hadn't even read yours. Promise.

Is this like that 100th Monkey thing? I sure hope so.

Interesting. But is a human really any better than an animal? Other creatures have self-awareness, or at least some form of awareness. Even plants, they are alive, are plants aware of this? I don't believe we can assume other creatures have less of an awareness, just because their awareness doesn't involve sight, touch, smell, or possibly even a nervous system or brain.

We pride ourselves in being the only creatures to have morals, but do we really use our morals? I guarantee humans kill more of our own species than any animal ever has. Bees/Wasps kill 53 people a year in the U.SA. Dogs kill 31. Rattlesnakes kill 6. Guess how many people in the U.S were murdered in 2010? 14,748! and that's the lowest it's been since 1969!!!!

I notice that you are against labelling people. Then why label us humans, and them animals? Isn't that the same thing your against? You say as humans, we should learn to live with each other, why not include all species?

We're all alive, we all feel pain, we're all going to die one day, we know that cooperating with animals can be beneficial (dogs, cats, horses), why not explore that realm?

In general I don't think we're that special over animals, but I agree we do have some pretty impressive talents. (maybe only by our standards)

I've been thinking recently, what if human kind was given this "gift" to actually destroy the world. What if that is our purpose, our underlying reason for existing: To bring Earth to an end.

Pollution, the destruction of natural habitats... maybe it's all part of the plan.

I don't know.. just a different look at it.
