I dont know about you but i'm a firm believer that somewhere in this gigantic and seemingly infinite universe of ours that their is intelligent life living on other planets. For all we know our planet could be thousands of years ahead of them or a thousand years behind. This is irrelevant to my highdea however.
Our whole life we have been conditioned and taught to believe everything we learn in school, watch on TV, read on the internet and are told by our government ( <-- figured id throw a joke in there with that last one). Everyone has different religious beliefs, most of which come back to an all knowing god and a permanent vacation in heaven or hell . We've been told that things like time travel, immortality, teleporting, reincarnation, and telepathy are impossible to achieve (before you call me out on this i'm quite aware that their are people who think some of these can be achieved but for the sake of the highdea bare with me here).

Now for the highdea...lets assume one day extraterrestrial life does come to planet earth with peaceful intentions and wanting to share their advanced technologies with us. How would we as a whole (planet earth) handle all of this information. Ever since the dawn of man we have spent our time solving problems, answering questions, and advancing as a society. How would the people of earth react to aliens coming down and basically handing us the answers to all of life's questions and problems. My point here is not necessarily how your everyday individual person would react but more how governments, scientists, and religions would react.
Imagine being a scientist who has spent the last 30 years of his life with a team of scientists trying to cure world hunger or an incurable disease. World hunger and disease would be, in all likelihood, forever cured. cherished scientific theories throughout the world would most likely be proven to be incorrect because of how little we really know about the universe around us. Aliens could easily come to earth and change everything we have ever known within a few hours of contact.

If aliens came to earth with superior technology what could the worlds governments even do? Clearly the aliens would be in control and could do whatever they wanted. More importantly they wouldn't see us as separate races or countries...they would see us as earthlings and human beings. Ya we may look different than one another but when it comes down to it we all have the same home. We would have to deal with the arrival of aliens together as a planet, not a bunch of separate countries. Also their would no longer be 3rd world countries. Every country would be just as advanced as the other. I cant help but wonder where that would lead. I can't imagine a world where everyone has access to the same food, technology, healthcare, and shelter. I can only wonder if that would lead to us finally becoming one as a planet and as people. No more bullying other weaker countries around. No more war

As for religion, i'm quite curious how each religion would react. Im not here to say every religion is wrong but if you really think hard about it, extraterrestrials coming to earth could shatter the back bone of every religion in the world and create havoc. How would you feel if you spent your entire life believing that if you followed the rules of your religion you would eventually go to heaven, only to then realize it was all a lie. I know some religions are stricter than others, and people nowadays seem to only follow the parts are that are most convenient to them but the idea of every religion being wrong could be devastating. Their would be many people who would realize their ENTIRE life was wasted on the hope of going to heaven. Time they would never get back. How would you react to that? Everything you've ever been told and believed in was a lie. Their is so much more i could get into on this topic but im just going to leave it be for now.

Id love it if people who actually read all of this left some comments with ideas and theories to add on to what ive wrote here. Theirs a report called the brookings report that talks about the potential implications on society if aliens were ever to come to earth and whether or not the government has the right to cover up any knowledge they may have on the subject of life on other planets.

Okay, man. I have no ideas or theories to comment on about this. All I know is that I agree with this. Ya know, I have always told myself that aliens for sure exist, but I have never found a way to pull my super conscious mind to elaborate as much as you did. Thank you dude, thank you.

Glad you shared this man. Too good to go unnoticed.

As for theories, I think you're right that extra terrestrials would break the backbone of most religions but they would undoubtedly adapt stories or theories of their own as to how it could be. Perhaps the aliens would just be a test from their god. Perhaps the aliens were nothing more than angels sent from heaven. There would be no way that religions would just close up shop and be like fuck it, we were wrong. Do you know how much money religions pull in? It's astronomical. And disgusting. They get tax breaks for everything while running entirely on donations. Formed as nonprofits, they have to be (and this might offend some people) the biggest scams in history. I grew up catholic, went to a catholic school through 8th grade going to mass two days every week. It wasn't until after i got out of that environment that I was able to question it all. If you haven't seen how corrupt and evil the catholic church is, please watch Deliver Us From Evil, a documentary about Oliver O'Grady, a roman catholic priest who raped and molested dozens of young children from his parishes. The catholic church would simply move him to another area, sometimes as close as only 10 miles away, when the complaints stacked up too high. When a bishop was asked if O'Grady would lose his position in the church or face and type of punishment he said no, and he never did.

Im glad you guys like this highdea. Its something i'd been thinking about for a while and finally was able to put into words. unfortunately you're probably right NotHilarious. Religion has been and always will be a big scam and their is no way the leaders of each religion would let it go. I wouldn't be surprised to see the pope himself come out and show "evidence" in the bible somewhere that says aliens exist and god has sent them down to help us. The bible is so loosely translated and can really be interpreted in so many different ways.

Mon, 01/02/2012 - 3:30pm

going off what you and nothilarious said, they'd point to the ''loose'' descriptions of various things in the bible as aliens. i know for a fact that the book of Ezekiel talks about creatures with four faces (man lion ox eagle), four wings, legs and on fire. Religion wants me to believe the bible and other teachings, well when i see this manbeast, i'll believe the bible.

if/when they land, imagine the hostility the'll face. so many aren't ready to encounter a new being of that magnitude. i don't understand why so many people think aliens are going to be hostile though, they probably started out in their quest for space just like us- curious to see what else is out there.

Sat, 12/31/2011 - 1:32am

And what would happen if when they do come, they arrive in N Korea or Iran. They wouldn't know or give a shit about borders which are a pretty fucked concept anyway but how would they react to the red tape and shit. Also before they come, we should come up with a better name than "earthling". Maybe like earthonian or earthish. Every time I hear earthling I can't help but put puny before it.

You got my upvote man, this shit is deep. I was thinking about this alot just recently and its kinda trippy. really without a doubt theres gotta be alien life out there, i mean theres billions of other galaxies, each of them with their own perception of what life is, if up is down, if blue is red, i think it'd be really hard to communicate with them because who knows what it was like on the planet they came from. Just because they came and shared wisdom and information doens't mean they're necessarily right thought. Good hidea mate

Did anyone look up the brooking report? One day when it finally comes out that the government has been keeping the truth about aliens from us i fully expect them to cite that report as the reason why they did it...although when it comes down to it they really may be doing us a favor. I'm not sure everyone is ready to accept the consequences that interaction with extra terrestrials would bring. It doesn't take much these days to cause mass chaos and confusion

It's obvious something that people have thought about for millenia. There are ancient paintings that have been found to have U.F.O.'s in the sky, in the Bible in the Book of Elijah there is mention in a vision of things resembling U.F.O.'s as well as in the Book of Revelation. These things go back thousands of years!!!

Mon, 01/02/2012 - 11:42am

I wonder what these aliens would look like. I bet you it's nothing like the typical alien thats in movies and stuff. Maybe they look just like us. Maybe they look like us but they are purple, or green. What if they were way taller, way stronger, and way faster.

Okay, i'll stop now.

Mon, 01/02/2012 - 1:21pm

i imagined a purple version of myself hahaha

i love the whole thing, first of all. maybe instead of all of us dying when december 21 comes along, there will instead be a rebirth of society. like something as crucial as fire will be discovered and we will zoom into realms unknown. maybe then the aliens will come. (not an original idea.)
i don't think a lot of people would take too kindly to aliens trying to make things better though. i guess it's kind of like how my mom always tells me that LSD is horrible because a "true" human would be able to find their own creativity. what i'm trying to say is that i think a lot of people would be all "people are superior" and not want to ask help. Like that feeling when you know you need help.
Also, I think that a basic part of most human nature is the need for conflict, to make things interesting. In part, i can see why that would make sense, the constant need for a stimulus, but i think that it's really sad, how difficult it is to just be.

Mon, 01/02/2012 - 2:42pm

Why wouldn't you want to put yourself into a cage with a gorilla? Because a gorilla is extremely violent and primitive in nature, and would more than likely attack you because it does not know what you are or what to think of you. Though we may not see it, humans have not traveled that far along the evolutionary chain yet. We still have the primitive characteristic of violence within us. Tell me right now that if aliens came to visit us on this planet, that we wouldn't immediately react with violence simply because we have no idea what they are. Just as you wouldn't step into a cage with a gorilla, they would view us a primitive and violent beings, and would not put themselves into a situation where they know they could very easily be put into a dangerous situation.

Though they would have sufficient technology to create weapons that would make ours look like rocks and sticks, they wouldn't have these weapons because they would never have the need for them. They would be so far along the psychological scale that violence wouldn't even be a part of them. They would know the complete and utter pointlessness of it.

Mon, 01/02/2012 - 8:12pm
Smithhy Says:

Primitive and violent beings, but ones that can think and reason as well. I think science would be a more likely gauge of intelligence and advancement than technology. It'll be impossible to communicate with them, but science would be a common language, and perhaps a universal language could arise through it.

Damn, imagine how cool it would be as a scientist to sit down with a fellow alien scientist and compare their theories and discoveries.

And when it really comes down to it, it's just a more complex form of self reflection. "Star stuff, contemplating the stars"

We will be completely fucked by their technology.. If there is Aliens they are already here just chillin. Probably smoking and playing it cool on highDEAS.

I don't think that religion would be able to continue and just fit the aliens into their beliefs too easily. Im sure there would be those people who would continue to follow them but at the same time a think a large number of them would wake up and see what is really going on.

As for countries coming together, I think that would really only happen if the aliens really were hostile and it required humanity coming together to overcome them (like War of the Worlds or Independence Day). I don't think peaceful aliens would stop all the hate between us, its gone back too far for so many and of course the governments would get in the way keeping shit from their people and even other less developed countries. I dunno, maybe im just cynical

Mon, 01/02/2012 - 4:33pm

how in the world does alien life prove that religions are all completely wrong?
seems like a bit of a jump to conclusions...
i think it would obviously remind us that humans are not the 'chosen ones' as christianity seems to suggest, we are just another animal of god's creation
my idea of god is far different from that of many religious believers so don't take that word in the usual context, i see god as the culmination of all creation
i think god came from nothing, just like everything else, and in the infinite expanse of time, eventually consciousness was able to evolve to a climactic point of ultimate being
then this consciousness was able to produce worlds, entire universes, at whim
and i truly believe in a spiritual world, a dimension of this very universe that is more real than anything we can see or touch, and we may transcend these material bodies to that realm once we die
i dont believe in a heaven or hell, i believe in a spirit world and a material world, what you make of it is what defines it as heaven or hell
maybe god isn't in control of every single action and reaction, but maybe he set the rules for what the laws of nature are in the first place
no one really knows, it's all theory, but if aliens did come, certainly they would be the children of god just as much as we are
i would hope our society would embrace them as prophets, as leaders towards the evolution of mankind
i think most of what you said would be true, all people would have equal opportunities in life
also we may feel a stronger bond as a human race, being that aliens would probably look and think so differently, we would realize how similar and connected all humans really are

Sun, 01/22/2012 - 7:57am

Mon, 01/02/2012 - 9:15pm
Smithhy Says:

If anything, aliens = everything in most religions is true. Religious texts are always full of vague multi-interpretable descriptions of things perfect for supporting higher beings descending from the sky.

Once the initial shock wears off and we exchange communications, we'll start realizing they're just organisms lost in space as well. That's what I think will shake up religions, meeting the "gods" and having the gods explain that they're just scientists and explorers who happened to hear our radio buzz and came to say hello.

Muncheels Says:

I just want to say that i wasn't implying that their is no god or anything like that. Everyones entitled to their own opinions, and i happen to believe in god...though more for comfort reasons then religious. I just really believe that most religions wouldn't be able to withstand something like this happening. Im sure some would survive. Im also pretty sure that people will be demanding answers and what else can they turn to other than their religion for answers on what to do. I may have put a little more opinion in here than i meant to but i stand by what i wrote

Mon, 01/02/2012 - 8:25pm

Here's one for you, times relevant. What if upon embarking on your journey our civilization is hundreds of years more advanced but by the time we get there hundreds of years have occurred, but you were traveling at the speed of light so you didnt actually age any at all and thus your technology is behind them.

Great highDea, I had an idea that wasn't quite different. A lot of people feel anxious when things are different then they know, they're familiar with (or have already known them, but later alianated with). That plus the fact that most folks don't take kindly on strangers who try to teach them better, even when its well-ment, gives me reason to believe that, though some individuals like you and me will react with joy when they arrive, most worldleaders (political, religious, economical or otherwise) will turn to attack-mode and spread some sort of alien-mania through the propaganda that is media.
Society, in its own eyes divided by itself, will ironicly split in two. One side supports the image of a divided race, not only in culture, but also in wealth and health, whilst the other side just wants the best, not only for men, but for every creature alike.
By the way, I never read the Bible, but I heared that the Nefillim were mentioned in some form. Could it be that they are the angels?

Tue, 01/03/2012 - 12:54pm

Scienist have proven there is a alternate plant like ours light years away. So basically another earth. O and i also watched a youtube video based on anicent times and the break down of the bible, they came to the theory that aliens are the cause of our evolution. Dude, agree. When you consider that our society has only been in existence for roughly 10,000 years, and that the Universe is over 13 billion years old, it almost has to be assumed that their are life forms out there much more advanced than us. Our planet wasn't formed until 3.5bya... essentially, intelligent life forms could have been developing billions of years before earth was even a planet. And how likely is it that other forms of intelligent life killed its self off or was killed off by a natural disaster like the asteroid that killed off much of the life on earth 65mya?
