It does matter, but if you forget and no one else knows that stays in the past, and if its in the past it can be undo it can be reversed and no one can prosecute you for as bad as it sounds it technically wouldn't matter.
You're denying any meaning to life. If the past doesn't matter and everything in the future will one day be the past, why would anything matter at all? The past matters in that any event that has an affect on someones life, matters to those people. Saying the past has no meaning or doesn't matter, is saying you should not have morals or values to influence future decisions because they are going to immediately past choices.
