Today we had our maternal grandparents over to have lunch and to catch up on things. My grandpa has had moderate alzheimer's for the past three years and in that time he hasn't called me by my name once. I listend to the same Airforce story four times in a row and he didnt realize he was retelling it, he tells me the same story every time we talk. He knows that I am a familiar face but just cant put a name to it. So after lunch he went to the bathroom, while he was doing that I got his old wooden pipe that he's had for as long as I've been around. I put some weed at the bottom of the wooden bowl and covered it with tobacco so he wouldnt be thrown off. Sure enough he comes out of the bathroom and wants to have a smoke on the back deck. While smoking, without even realizing it he called me by my name, "Chris". He told me all kinds of old war stories and memories of his child-hood that he was shocked he could remember them. Then he went back inside to call everyone by their names and gave my grandma a huge hug. My grandma started crying tears of joy because it reminded her of how he used to be. I still havent told anyone what I did, they all thought it was a miracle. This is more than just a plant. Im not a strong believer in God but I now believe that this plant was put on Earth for a reason.

Thanks, im really glad you liked it! Thats too bad about your grandma. You should try making her some brownies or something, seriously it was the most life changing experience ever to see my grandpa just like he was before he was diagnosed with alzheimers. He was only back to normal for about 45-60 minutes though because it was like half tobacoo and not all weed.

I can't believe he said "Nobody wants to hear that an illegal drug that the government has put so much effort into keeping illegal may have health benefits." Why can't anybody just look at the facts and make a logical decision? That would make too much sense for the government.

Thanks for sharing the vid though.

Damn dude.. I got chills in my head reading this story. And damn did it make me think. My parents are 64 and I know I'm going to have to deal with them being like this way before everyone else my age will. And it's going to fucking kill me. But, you've given me a little hope for the future = )

Dude that's awesome that you were able to see him like his old self again. My grandpa was my best friend and just passed away a couple months ago from the same thing. It's rough walking up to someone you've known that long and having them stare at you trying to remember who you are. You should definitely do this again and ask him everything you think you ever might want to talk to him about. I still remember the last time I talked to my grandpa before his memory faded, its something you never forget. best wishes man

that's a good story. i recently read a news article about how marijuana helps prevent alzheimer's in people who are likely to develop it (hereditary), but it's nice to see that it can help bring people back too, even if only temporarily.

at first, i was kinda disapproving of you packing the bowl without your gramp's knowledge, but it seems like no harm no foul in this case.

haha ya it was kind of a big risk. I had a feeling he would either act totally normal like his old self or completely start freakin out. so im very grateful for the outcome

This is so inspirational and really makes me hope the best for you and everyone who has had to deal with these things... My meme has had a couple of brain surgeries for brain tumors, and her memory about some things is really bad. I wonder if this would help her... too bad she doesn't smoke. Toke on to you and your grandfather :)

this is amazing! i have read that there has been new research that proves THC slows the progression of alzheimer's and other kinds of dementia, but this is just an incredible story!!! i have thought about how it might help my grandmother, but she doesn't smoke and is completely against any form of smoking, especially the illegal kind. it is really too bad. there are probably so many people with alzheimer's that would really benefit from weed, but the government keeps it from them.

Thanks for sharing man, my father has a similar dimmentia (parkinsons) and your story reminded me of when he had pneumonia for a week and I was really scared that we might lose him because he's pretty old. I came home from the taking him to the doctors and they had given us a vaporizer for him to take this special medicine with and while I was setting it up for him he says, "Now all we need is some marijuana" with a smile on his face. I lost it, I just started cracking up and smiling it made me so happy that he had such high spirits.
