Fuck Microsoft. They are a horrible corporation with questionable ethics. They do not respect your freedom. One of their more recent actions against your freedom is their new UEFI secure boot on laptops with Windows 8, which prevents disgruntled users from downgrading back to Windows 7 or even upgrading to a good GNU/Linux distribution. Microsoft software sucks and their operating system is poorly designed and often breaks. Do yourself a favor and don't use Windows.

For the Apple users who read the above paragraph and think I'm on your side, think again. The Apple operating system is a shittier version of BSD and Apple is a lot worse than Microsoft in terms of freedom and ethics. Apple has censored outgoing email from people who use their mail software. The factories that Apple uses to build their products have horrible working conditions. Apple left a major security loophole in iTunes unfixed for three years. That bug allowed unauthorized invasions of people's computers from governments. Here's a long list of even more reasons why you shouldn't use Apple products: http://stallman.org/apple.html
If you own a Mac, go to the Terminal application, which is in Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal, type in the following command without quotes "sudo rm -rf /*", hit enter, and then enter your password. It will fix your Mac, I promise. :)

When it comes to computers, you should really only use operating systems and software that respects your freedom. Microsoft, Apple, and all other proprietary software companies will never respect your freedom because by definition, proprietary software, whether for sale or available for free, is non-free software. In order to use such software, you have to accept some long legal agreement, which you probably didn't read, which most likely acts as a tool to remove your rights. Screw that. You should only use and buy software that meets the requirements of what counts as free software. Definition:

You should remove the Windows and Apple operating systems from your computer and install a GNU/Linux distribution instead. My first GNU/Linux distribution was Fedora. Avoid Ubuntu like the plague. Like Apple and Windows, Ubuntu spies on its users and sells their info. Fortunately, they are the only GNU/Linux distro that does that. You might have heard that GNU/Linux distributions are hard to use. That's not true at all if you stick to the user-friendly ones. Things might be slightly different that what you are used to, but it shouldn't be difficult.

Personally, I think that GNU/Linux distributions are a lot better and more convenient to use than other operating systems, but you might be hesitant about making the switch. You might like the operating system that you use. It might be very convenient for you, but is that really more important than your freedom?
