I think people should have to have a license to vote. To get it, you would have to pass a test indicating that you had a basic understanding of the Constitution, how government works, and the issues of the day. And it should have to be renewed periodically. Only an educated electorate can make informed decisions.

Guarantee if we had a system like that, weed would be legal.

Ok, Pwnage took things a little far, but I kind of agree with him. Thats not to say black people shouldn't vote... obviously im not saying that. But only educated people should be in charge of the government. Its not rational for someone who actually knows what the constitution stands for, who a vote completely equivalent as that of the dumbass teenage girl who voted for who her boyfriend told her to.

You see, that's where you and I disagree. For one to become a business head, CEO, or entrepreneur, one must be incredibly intelligent. This person is contributing vast amounts to the modern day economy and most likely working very long hours. Also, his vote is insignificant due to the number of CEO's compared to the rest of the population. Everybody likes to hate on the big guys.

If we really wanted to adhere to separation of church and state, maybe priests and clergy and the like wouldn't be allowed to get a license. Not sure about that one, though. I mean, priests can DRIVE, right?

I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but anyone with a basic knowledge of the constitution would know exactly why this can't work. The constitution protects the right to vote for everyone. Just cause their dumb, or have a different opinion fro
You, doesn't mean they're any different than you. Accept everyone, cause that's all anyone ever really wants.

just changing the constitution wont make it right. many things need to be changed that aren't. maybe it would make the government work better if dumb people couldn't vote. if you think they should take other peoples rights away you shouldn't be allowed to vote

Sun, 04/22/2012 - 10:42pm

Yeahh. Who even defines what is 'right' and 'wrong'? Every person's different opinions are what make our world whole. We have to have the balance of intelligences. If everyone was too educated on the topic and passionate about it that would lead to power trips. Education is knowledge and knowledge is power. People would get hungry and take over shedding what they think is 'right'. But the fact that we have half who 'don't' know politics and the other half that 'do' gives an even and equal pool for votes. Voting is freedom. It puts the power in the hands of the people. And even then we have government power struggles-its just under the radar so the American people can 'believe' in their leaders.

Actually our government already had a test you were required to take to vote, it was called a "Literacy Test" basically it was the governments way of preventing black people from voting. Of course this back-fired when most of the white population couldn't pass the test either.

Sun, 04/22/2012 - 8:09pm

Congress is already trying to get a bill passed that would require people to show identification ((just as you have to do to buy alcohol, cigarettes, purchase certain things with a credit card, go through airport security, etc)) to vote in order to eliminate a large majority of voter fraud, but the left is crying out their usual mantra of "racism," so it probably won't pass.

Mon, 04/23/2012 - 12:46pm
spacely92 Says:

Except that voter fraud is a non issue made up by the right. If I recall correctly it was Wisconsin in 10' that 13/13 voter fraud cases were by ex felons who weren't aware they couldn't vote which is about .03% of the electorate. And yes these laws unproportionatley effect minorities and college students who mainly vote democratic. Interestingly in Texas your college I.d does not qualify as proper I'd but your NRA card does. If we allow as many people to vote as possible I'm confident the American people will make informed decisions.

Sun, 04/22/2012 - 10:36pm

they had literacy tests from reconstruction until the civil rights movement. they were designed to not let blacks vote. they allowed dumb whites to vote by adding a clause that said if your grandfather could vote then you could too without passing the test. the tests were impossibly difficult. i saw some sample questions and i passed by 1 question. this is a good idea on paper, but it wouldnt work in real life

Sun, 04/22/2012 - 11:58pm

No offense dude, but this would probably fuck us even more. Cause the way i see it, MOST people who get into politic stuff end up being closed minded and MOST people who don't focus on politic stuff and focus on peace & love are alot more open minded and alot more character.
Just my opinion.

Mon, 04/23/2012 - 12:43am

I hate the downvote, and I just downvoted this. That would be a massive violation of basic human rights. Every human being has the right to have an input on that which governs him, whether or not he decides to use that input thoughtfully. That would be a one more law bringing America toward violent revolution.

Mon, 04/23/2012 - 12:42am

I understand the aggravation with with the intellectual decline of America, but it aggravates me that people don't understand the Constitution, it's founding principles, the history behind them, and the history of the United States to the point that his highdea could even get popular. I don't mean to be a duech, but I don't see any other suitable reaction.

Mrstoney95 Says:

All this would do is give all the stoners another reason not to get up and vote, if anything we should focus on more of the general population to vote but also making sure the people who are voting have and understanding of our basic rights. there needs to be an incentive for people to vote and not to just not give a fuck and let our country be ruled by old white bastards who would keep something like MARIJUANA ILLEGAL.

THATS my opinion.

Mon, 04/23/2012 - 2:22am

This is dumb as shit thats just taking away peoples rights

Mon, 04/23/2012 - 12:22pm

voting does not mean SHIT! if you do not live in a swing state, the results for your state are pretty much pre-determined, due to the electoral college system we still use(which is now an outdated way to due things it was set up by our founding fathers because of how hard it was to spread information back in the day) depending on your state as well you may have more influence with your vote then someone living in another. The system is broken it doesnt matter unless u live in a minority of states!

Mon, 04/23/2012 - 8:15pm

Two states out of the fifty split the delegates. I bet if more states used that system states that aren't swing states would still make a difference. What we have is a fucking tyranny of the majority.
