in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than the your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all star dust. You couldn't be here if stars hadn't exploded, because all the elements - the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that mater for evolution and for life weren't created at the beginning of time. They were created in the furnaces of stars, and the only ways for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. So, forget Jesus. The stars died so that you could be here today."

i upvoted u for at least believing in something... stars are sentient objects. they felt no pain, no emotion. that doesnt really sound like much of a sacrifice to me. Jesus on the other hand... idk if u wanna be tortured and killed at the age of 35 but i'd like to see my grandkids. ...talk about a sacrifice.

Lawrence Krauss is the man. I hella want to get his book "The Physics of Star Trek." Also, fuck Jesus. The idea that humans have original sin because of what Adam and Eve did is retarded. For one, it implies that an innocent person can be blamed for the sins of their parents. It also creates the false notion that humans are sinners from birth and are necessarily evil. If Adam and Eve actually did exist, which they did not, then what they did would have counted only for them, not for their children. Jesus's death was just a useless display of theatrics. If Jesus exited, he died for NO ONE.

dont hate on Jesus lovers, their stories wield significant symbolic weight. While i am not one, per-say, the virtues of true christian followers are necessary components for modern-day man. Physics is dependent on Metaphysics.

"virtues of true christian followers are necessary components for modern-day man"

Bullshit. Yeah, there might be some good things in those virtues, but they are certainly NOT exclusive to Christianity, therefore Christianity is not necessary.

"Physics is dependent on Metaphysics."

No. Physics is ultimately dependent on being able to test shit out to see if it works.

ozofwizard Says:

tell me how the statement that "ultimately dependent on being able to test shit out to see if it works." is scientifically certifiably true. that is a metaphysical statement mr physicist. while Christianity may not be necessary, religion is. Natures god is presupposed for scientific inquiry good sir. these are the facts where truth is not relative

Wed, 05/04/2011 - 2:11pm

"tell me how the statement is scientifically certifiably true"

Sure. We can analyze which theories of physics survive and which don't and look at why they do. The ones that survive do so because they hold up during experiments. Metaphysics is studying the nature of the universe, ie what it is and what it is like. It seems like metaphysics might be dependent on physics, not the other way around.

"Natures god is presupposed for scientific inquiry good sir. these are the facts where truth is not relative"

There are no gods that are presupposed through for scientific inquiry. If one is going to try to justify god through science, then one wouldn't find out that a god exists until after science can demonstrate it.

With all due respect, you seem to lack a fundamental understanding of metaphysics as referenced from your claim that it is dependent on physics. Metaphysics goes well beyond this physical realm of human perception, my friend.

That isn't how gods love works. Also, you were created by God. Even if we came from startdust, God would have made the stars form us, so either way he did it. Like it or not, your sitting there, your heart is beating because of god. Pretty ungrateful man..

Were formed by stars. not god making stars thats so stupid, then who created god? huh tough guy answer me that! hahaha and dont give me some bull about he's god. thats not a answer. and if aliens are real what would you believe in now? or would religions mind state change to "We were stupid to believe god only created us?" and the churches still take your money...i dont mean to be a dick, really...God is nothing but your inner-self. replace god with yourself and thats the way you should live.

who said humans have original sin? Jesus died for our sins and continues to forgive our sins after we commit them. that's why he's so amazing, because of his grace. I don't think you'll find anywhere in the Bible that we are born with original sin. We are born perfect because 1. we are made in his image, and 2. because he had already died for all of our sins, including the sin Adam and Eve committed. "Original Sin" is a term that has been created by humans, not by God or Jesus.

Wed, 05/04/2011 - 11:17am
stevieg14 Says:

It's not a matter of perfect, we're made in his image but also have 'free will' (which many debate) but it comes down to our ability to make conscious choices, our original sin, rooting in Eve's disobedience. That's our original sin, the ability to defy God, however that may be.

Wed, 05/04/2011 - 2:19pm

If Jesus really died for our sins, he should still be in Hell paying for them. Jesus's death was supposedly a brutal blood sacrifice. Why was a blood sacrifice necessary to make up for sin and how does it act to correct the results of sin? Once again, it seems like that Jesus's death was a pointless display of theatrics that accomplished NOTHING.

Wed, 05/04/2011 - 11:18am

Catholics are basically the only branch of Christianity that believes in original sin, and since there are tons of other branches of Christianity, the argument that Jesus' death was pointless isn't quite true when talkin abt all the other branches, but I understand where ur coming from

Dr.Ocular Says:

Jesus never believed in original sin. That is a made up concept well after his death. Also according to the torah God isn't a person, it is a force.
Force has no origin, no beginning, no end. Force existed before time, and will exists after time. Force creates matter, and force destroys matter. Force is everywhere, yet not completely measurable, while some divisions of force expose themselves to use, other stay hidden and beyond our comprehension. There are no mindichlorians producing the force, in fact nothing can truly produce force, its existence predates the universe (time), and is thus inherent in matter. Force is a part of all of us.

-also I would like to add that if force collided with a super computer, it would not communicate in binary... unless it wanted too

Wed, 05/04/2011 - 2:14pm

The Torah describes God as a conscious being. Also, in physics, force does have beginnings and ends, but you might be confusing force with energy, which is a physical concept that is measurable.

About evolution, the chance for DNA evolving is 1 over 10 to the 410 and if over all these years we were evolving how come we can't find a single fossil that is undergoing evolution? If u study the human body and look at all it's splendors or study the universe and look at the patterns they all point to a creator, as to where that creator came from our minds cannot fathom so stop trying to figure god out its not something we can understand.
