Dubstep- A computer geek playing digital sounds on his mac book mixing them with shitty top 40 music. Music is dead. Whatever happened to music when the musicians played instruments, sang, and wrote beautiful lyrics with deeper meaing instead of today's shit music about pussy, money, and weed.

Weed makes everything better, but I still can't even listen to this stupid shit high off my ass. It all sounds the exact same. Where's the originality?

If you have such a huge problem with the music that comes out today then do something about it. Go make the music you find suitable. Once you find out how taxing the process of composition, arrangement, EQing/mixing and mastering is, for any genre, you'll regret belittling any kind of music.

DUBstep is awesome, just depends on what ur listening to!
Going from no dubstep to heavy dubstep will put you off
I suggest some commercial dubstep first and see where you are like

katy b - on mission
Chase and status - time
tinie tempah - pass out
alex clare - too close

If none of these tracks do anyting for you, it possible dubstep isnt for you!

most of the time i hate it cause its just a bunch of wub-wubs and wobs
but every once and a while you hear a good bass drop
and white fluid sprays out of your ears as your whole body shivers from the euphonious eargasm.

From someone who listens to all kinds of music (Beatles to DMX, Datsick to the Beegees, I've even listend to some Indian and middle eastern music and found it enjoyable), and has over 13,000 songs on his iTunes account, I say it's ok to dislike a certain kind of music. I'd strongly recommend you try to enjoy music for what it is, an artist's extension of themselves to the listener. I love dubstep personally, but there are many kinds of dubstep and I say, there may be a kind out there for you, don't give up on the entire genre and overlook some of the sub-genre's simply because someone posted a playlist of Optimus banging Megatron, I even can't get into some of the hardcore stuff, but people like Pretty Lights who work pop influences in, and even stuff like James Brown, guys like him remind me of how Daft Punk nearly has their own category within the electronic genre.

I would suggest two things: #1: As I stated, don't close it out, there is some really great music if you can find it, I don't know your personal tastes though, but my best friend of 15 years only listens to 80s-90s glam metal and hard rock, hates rap and everything else, now listens to some current artists, including dubstep, so... Be open to things, you never know, you might find something that's good. #2 Enjoy music for what it is, even if a song has a bad 10 second intro, it could have the most insane solo/face-melting drop 30 seconds in.

*Side note: you probably have heard dubstep, even the most insane hardcore stuff, and liked it because you were distracted by whatever was going on in the movie you were watching. I dislike death metal, but it does make for an awesome backdrop to a adrenaline-fueled car chase.

I have a love hate relationship with dubstep. I think it's badass how people make it. It's art. I couldn't do it. But I prefer something else to listen to.

Mon, 01/27/2014 - 10:39am

i used to like dubstep when it was a little more underground (no hipster intended). it was fun to hear because it seemed to go against all the rules of regular music. nowadays all dubstep sounds like skrillex and i hate that.
i wouldn't go so far as to say i hate dubstep, it's just really not my thing anymore. but i understand why people like it. still i wonder... why is there a neverending war between people, saying "this genre sucks" or "my genre is better"? if you want to listen to what i don't like.. go ahead? i just won't listen along haha

Honestly, A Majority Of All The Dubstep ArtistsAre Actual Musicians. Like SkrillexHe WasIn from First To Last, He Plays Drums Guitar, And SIng. He Understands The Concept Of Timing, Chord FromProgressions, And Music Theory. When It Com es To Live PerformanceS It's A Piece Of Cake, But When It Comes To Mixing It's A Long Process. Most Of Them Take Similar Concepts That They've Learned And Three It Into Another Form.
I Personally Don't Mind Dubstep, I Use Not Like It Bu t Even Then I Didn't Look Down On It. I Always Stay Open.minded

and PS:
going from an emo-band (which opened a kickstarter, for fund for an album, HOW FUCKED UP IS THAT? hey give us money to make music so you can give us money to listen to it) to dubstep, doesn't show musical talent. it shows you're a trend-hopper.

Wed, 01/29/2014 - 11:38pm

personally I enjoy some dubstep, but everyone has their opinions. Just listen to music that you like and don't worry about everyone else's opinion :)
