What if, instead a tombstone on our grave we'd all plant a tree on our grave?
1. That would turn all graveyards into forests. Those forests would be out of reach for all those assholes cutting down our green sources of air and would preserve a better future for our future generations.
2. People die, all the time, unfortunately, but that would mean that the forests will grow forever.
3. Isn't it awesome having a tree grow out of you? Imagine yourself living as a tree for a few hundreds or even thousands years more. Your children would like going to your grave much more, it'd be in a midst of a forest and a tree rising from your (again, unfortunately) remains would be much more personal, than a cold stone.
Don't know how many of you'd agree, but that's the way I'd like to go :)

I want this to happen to me when I die no coffin so the tree can take my nutrients I want a sequoia growing out of me for sure
They have urns that you can have your ashes placed in that will grow into trees. Not sure what it's called. Google that sumbitch.
When i spoke to my friends about this they told me the same thing, but - i somehow dislike the idea being burned and i think that a tree growing from my remains is much more "green" and personal :D
Actually it would help the tree a lot more if you were cremated. See due to the high amounts of preservatives in our system from food processing, our bodies slowly decompose, and when it does all the nasty particulates in our bodies are released into the soil. But if you cremated a body, most of the bad chemicals are burned off as CO2 (Which plants actually need to produce oxygen, you see its a symbiotic relationship, we breath oxygen and release co2, plants breath co2 and give off oxygen) And the ashes would be left with all the good nutrients and its easier to get at then a decomposing corpse because its already broken down. It would also be easier to plant the tree and make sure it grows, because you basically use the urn as a planter bulb so the tree immediately starts using the resources you have given it.
The tree would turn your body into oxygen, so you'd live on in the bongs of future generations.

This is such a brilliant idea, absolutely brilliant. What would be more permanent than a tree? Tombstones eventually deteriorate and crumble, but a tree only grows bigger, wiser. I think this would be the ultimate way to give back to nature.. I see no down sides to this.
I now feel determined to make this happen...
Why do I picture the roots of the trees messing w my casket, maybe uprooting it? O_o Centuries of a trees root disturbing my final resting place? Tree root rape. No gracias!

I don't think you'll mind, your body will be dead for sure and depending on your believes - all kind of stuff can happen to your spiritual self.. But anyway around - you'd be doing a good deed by being a fertile ground for a tree, no?

I don't know if you guys have heard of Ender's Game (the book/movie), but the sequel to Ender's Game is called Speaker For The Dead and it involves a race of intelligent pig-like people who perform a tribal ceremony that involves planting trees in all dying tribe members. They resultantly live in a large forest of "dead people" trees. Supposedly their souls travel into the trees and live on. Awesome book and idea.

I think it's a beautiful idea. I'd heard about the urns, but your way gives people a choice who, like yourself would not want cremation.
