I wake up in a musty room. the bricks are old and have cracked in many places. I'm confused as to where I am. I put my feet over the edge of the bed. thats when i feel an unfamiliar texture. I lift my heavy body up and look over the edge of the bed. the floor is made of sandy dirt. A ray of sunlight shines through a crack in the old wooden door, temporarily blinding me. I trudge towards the door and place my hand on the cold, chipped door knob. I open the door and the light completely illuminates the room. I step outside squinting and, just then, a bird fly's right by my face.

I feel awake and energetic but at the same time very calm. I walk through the sandy lands, staring at the different people walking by. It's not too busy of a place. theres not many people, but the people i do see look very distinguished from one another. They all seem to have very different tastes and dreams. the land is mostly flat except for a few small shacks here and there. I make my way to what appears to be a river. however, it is encapsulated in a perfect rectangle, almost like a swimming pool would look if it were surrounded by sand, instead of pavement.

I see a two people rowing down the stream, confident and on a mission. I shout out to them, they look like they know whats going on.

"Hello?!...Hey! You two! In the water!"

I run closer to them and they pull their small boat over to the side. The man takes off his sunglass. He looks about 18 or 19 years old. He has thick brown hair sitting right above his eyes.
He pushes it back and says,

"what do you need friend?"

"Um, well I'm kind of confused about whats going on," I respond.

"Sorry, I don't quite know what you mean" he says, puzzled.

The girl behind him opens her mouth, but then shuts it as if she forgot what she was going to say. Her dirty blonde hair reaches all the way down to her hips. She has a long white T-shirt on with the bold red lettering that reads "Re's pond". She looks about 18 years old.

"Well, what are you guys doing?" I ask curiously.

"Oh. We're just rowing down stream," she says before looking behind at the long clean pond.

"I've really never seen anything like it," I say. They both smile. We all stand there for about 5 or 6 seconds, not saying anything.

I break the pause, "So...do you guys blaze?"

"Ha ha. You need to get to the Sensimilla Shrine. Keep walking straight until you see a purple palm tree. Look around the bend, and there it is!"

"Thanks dude!" I say gratefully.

As I'm walking I wave bye to the quirky pair rowing away down stream. The sand warms my bare feet as I admire the bright blue sky. Running my hand over a long golden rock as i continue on my journey, I reach a point where the sand stops. Just as I notice the fresh green grass, I look up. A flourescent purple palm tree towers over me. The aroma glides through my nostrils immediately. Amazing. Turn the bend, he said. So i do. A beige pyramid-like structure stands before me. Eager to blaze, I run up the steps. With little fatigue, I reach the top and walk through a dark hallway. It's pretty weird. Not this pyramid; just the comfortability I feel. It's like I'm walking down yonge & dundas, or chilling at home. I would expect to feel less "at-home" in an unknown place.

Before I can finish my thought, I smell it. Oh sweet Jesus! Thou only givest these gifts to man; and thou hast the keys of Paradise, oh, just, subtle, and mighty marijuana! Upon a glass podium lies a cube of the finest-smelling bud. It's about 6" x 6". A sign, almost as majestic looking as the weed itself, reads

"when your life begins to drown in mud, extend your arm and reach for bud"

I rip off a piece of bud and right when I realize that i have no tools to smoke it with, a creature turns the corner. I jump out of shock. partly because i didnt notice him turning the corner, but mostly because he resembled a giant cat. he was orange, but didnt look like garfield. he had a skinny human-type body and could speak english. his head was small and looked identical to the common house cat.

"Dude.." he said as he handed me a beautifully crafted wooden pipe.

the carvings on it were so intricate. I look up, uncertain of what to do. i never turn down weed but come on! this is weird! he could be poisoning me. However, at the time, his vibes were warm and trustworthy so i took a hit without question.

"Sooo..." I say before taking a giant rip,

"what do you do around here?"

"Well," he says, "I do, just what im doing. I am. And that's all I do."

Confused, and impressed at the same time i respond,

"Word."

I take another hit.

"That sounds awesome man. Your life must be really chill."

"Indeed," he says,

"I enjoy my time here"

Now, really feeling like exploring, I part with my new friend, leave the temple and descend down the pyramid. The beauty of the entire scenery strikes me instantly. Standing high up the pyramid, i overlook the vast green plain, reaching out to the sandy desert and the long body of water. then i see something. Not too far away is a building-like structure shaped into a question mark (?).

I reach the bottom of the pyramid and begin to think::: The rowers i met have it good. They love to row and can do it all they want. They got that huge lake there. And then theres that cat who just chills around all day smoking bud. Here I am. Not knowing what the fuck to do. In some unknown land, with no goals and no one to talk to. no one to love. As i glance up momentarily from my lapse of thought, the question mark building is directly in front of me. Hmm...It seems a lot closer now. I step inside.

Wow. This place is so modern! So much different than the appearance of everything else around here. It's air conditioned, granite everywhere, and so clean. The elevator door is open and i step inside. The doors shut. My decision from here wasnt too hard considering there was only one button in the elevator, marked with the letter "B". I click it and the doors open. I step out to a giant white room. No furniture. Nothing. Except a man sitting on a black carpet. Cross-legged. Is he meditating? It looks like it. I walk towards him.

"Hello, my son.", he greets me

"Uh. Hi."

"Hello" he says.

10 seconds pass

"Umm. Well aren't you wondering why I'm here?" I ask

"Oh. No"

"Oh my god dude! Are you psychic or something? Do you already know why I am here?" I say

"Ha ha. No no. Do people still believe in that stuff?" he laughs

"Well. I don't know...Not really. I don't. You just seemed like...If you dont know why I'm here then...aren't you wondering?"

"Son. Do you know why you are here?"

"No! See that's the thing dude. It's like, everyone seems to know what they're doing except me."

"And what's so wrong with that?" he continues,

"No one HAS to look for anything. By being alive, you are doing something. You are experiencing a phenomenon beyond your comprehension. How amazing is that? If you don't know what to do, then just take anything you get! You met two new people by a beautiful river, smoked herb with a mystical creature, and witnessed landscapes that you've never seen before! And you're worrying because you didn't PLAN any of this?"

"Wow. You're right!" I say, in disbelief

"Nice to meet you." I say, reaching out my hand

"Nice to meet you too, my son. My name is Buddha" I thought he said

"Dude!! You founded a whole religion!"

"No! haha! My name is Budha! It's prounounced 'Bud-ha' " he said,

"I am the magical green substance, that allows you to see the truth. I allow you to see inside yourself, when your mind throws a cloth over parts of your thinking. You see, I didn't do anything for you. I just helped. All I did was show you were to look. Your mind had all the answers, and always will"

thanks dude! it was a day dream. (the title comes from the song 'after the gold rush' by neil young). i often sit and think about travelling to mystical lands. a lot of times the places are built off of places i see in real life, and some are places that only exist in my mind.
